Middlewich High School

Excellence in Learning – Achievement for All

Oscar Success for Mrs Barker

Oscar Success for Mrs Barker

On Friday 7th March 2015, our very own Julie Barker won a Middlewich Oscar for Arts & Culture Contribution of the Year due to Julie’s involvement with Middlewich High School Community Choir.

The award also acknowledges the fundraising that the choir has done for various charities over the past twelve months, including an impressive £1,500 raised for a borehole to be dug for Kilimo High School in Kenya at the choir’s summer concert last June.  Julie also organised the first Middlewich Community Carol Service last December, which raised money for Middlewich Mayor’s charity, the Alzheimer’s Society. There were twelve categories and over ninety nominations, so to have won is a great achievement.

Julie attended the ceremony with husband Frank and daughter Rachael.  Middlewich High School Headteacher Mr Simpson was in attendance, as were Nathan and Eunice from Kilimo High School in Kenya, who were visiting MHS.

“I am extremely proud to have been nominated and to receive an award was an honour and a lovely surprise.” Julie Barker continued, “My Oscar now takes pride of place in my home. It means so much to me, especially as I approach retirement from Middlewich High School, to be recognised in Middlewich for music and the arts, which has been and will continue to be such a big part of my life.”

Congratulations Julie!
