Middlewich High School

Excellence in Learning – Achievement for All

Religious eDUCATION

"DIVERSITY, TOLERANCE, SPIRITUALITY, THINKING, BELIEFS, ETHICS, MORALS - A WHOLE NEW DIMENSION."

Curriculum Vision

RE is a core subject within our school. Through studying RE at Middlewich High school we know our  students will be tolerant and respectful young people; accepting of others, and prepared for life beyond the classroom. We nurture a feeling of being a global citizen within our students, accepting people’s differences and embracing the opportunity to learn about different cultures, ethics and religion.

Our ambitious curriculum allows for the study of all 6 major world religions to provide a broad understanding of all, and to be able to draw links between them. We have sequenced the units of work so that students will build upon their knowledge, and we ensure the suitability to the age and abilities of the pupils studying them. We build on students’ cultural capital through teaching a broad curriculum,  and throughout their study, seek to strengthen their understanding of British values.

Within each unit, a variety of experiences are provided from written work, reflective activities, class/group discussion and deeper thinking. We develop skills such as listening, effective communication, working to deadlines, literacy, presentational skills, IT and research skills, and debating. We continually make links between the work we do and their future lives. Through studying RE at Middlewich High School we know that our students are fully equipped for life in the modern world.

Learning maps – At MHS we use learning maps to support retrieval and reinforcement of knowledge. We use these in class and as homework, you may find it useful to see what is coming up through the year for your child in their year group. We are continuing to develop these and update them through the year so you may notice some subjects have uploaded the first term, future work will be added at the appropriate time.
