MHS Watches the Solar Eclipse
On Friday 20th March, staff and pupils at Middlewich High School witnessed one of nature’s spectacular events: a partial eclipse of the Sun. At approximately 8.40am the Moon started to pass in front of the Sun and reached its maximum coverage at 9.33am precisely when 95% of the Sun was covered by the Moon. The whole school was able to watch the eclipse safely as all pupils and staff were equipped with special solar eclipse viewing glasses. These glasses block out around 99.9% of the Sunlight. Pupils had a special eclipse lesson during Science week on how to view the eclipse safely as looking at the Sun can cause serious eye damage and even blindness. Students had all completed a special risk assessment in order to view the eclipse safely. They all behaved impeccably and were surprised to feel how cold it actually got! The weather was perfect and it stayed clear long enough to see the whole of the eclipse.
