On 1st February, 40 pupils from years 9, 10 and 11 took part in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Intermediate Mathematical Challenge.

On 1st February, 40 pupils from years 9, 10 and 11 took part in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Intermediate Mathematical Challenge.  The competition required pupils to apply their Mathematical knowledge to answering 25 multiple-choice, problem solving style questions.  Marks were gained for correct answers but also lost for incorrect answers on the later questions.  Nationally the top 40% of entries receive certificates and our pupils performed exceptionally well, with 17 pupils being awarded certificates.  Congratulations to them all.  Well done to Noah Curran, Matthew Naylor and Rowan Westmacott on also being awarded Best in Year certificates and to Noah on achieving Best in School

Noah, Elliot, Euan, David and Rowan all achieved results to qualify for the next round of the competition, called the European Kangaroo.  Each year, over six million students aged 5-18 from more than 50 countries throughout the world take part in the Kangaroo competitions at various levels.  We have previously had one year 11 student qualify each year, so we are very pleased to see 5 students achieve this and in particular Rowan as he is our first year 9 to do so. This competition takes place on 15th March and we wish them luck.
