Middlewich High School

Excellence in Learning – Achievement for All

Cambridge University Trip

On the 17th April, approximately 20 students from Year 9 and 10 were selected to go to Cambridge University.

On the 17th April, approximately 20 students from Year 9 and 10 were selected to go to Cambridge University. In my personal opinion it was one of the most extraordinary trips Middlewich High School could have offered. We all went to the Fitzwilliam College in the University, one out of thirty-one colleges there. First we met Connor, who had already graduated from the University and sat us down to talk about what the University has to offer. He spoke to us about: A-levels, student loans (which he clarified weren’t as scary as they seemed!), transferrable skills, what to talk about in interviews and what is important in your personal statement, supervisions (extra, beneficial, small teaching groups to focus more on individuals) and the interview process.

They also took us to have lunch in their canteen, which Mr Wiseman was extremely fond of! During lunch, they introduced us to some third year students, who we could have conversations with about the University. Afterwards, they took us on a tour of the Fitzwilliam College, which was a much more modern college, built in 2011.

I think everyone can agree that Cambridge University has the most beautiful scenery, library, and general atmosphere. It made myself and others eager and aspiring to come here when we get older.
