Middlewich High School

Achievement for all

Head's Blog - 12/02/16

The week before our half term break has proven to be as busy as ever, with many exciting experiences for our students and staff.

Lucy Deakin, in 7S, has raised £700 for a child in need of a new wheelchair by organising a bring and buy sale.  She was very well supported by her peers and in particular Jazmine Fox. An amazing effort and just one more example of how aware our young people are of the need to help others.

We were visited by Hazel from the Children's Society on Monday to introduce the school community to the youth candidates for Cheshire East’s Youth Parliament. All students were given the opportunity to vote on the issues that matter to them in our locality. Please follow the link to find out more. http://www.ukyouthparliament.org.uk/about-us/. Our students’ participation in the vote was such that it earned high recognition and an award won from County!

The Year 11 Menai Art/Science revision weekend was hugely successful. My thanks to staff for offering this extended learning experience to our Year 11. The planetarium Star Lab, which is a resource from the Conway Centre, is now based at Middlewich High School and will be in full use with our Astronomy students and visiting primary schools. Some of our Year 10 Scientists visited Sir John Deane's College  to experience Sixth Form Science again as part of our partnership work within Pathway M this Wednesday. We know that this experience will give our students a vision for their studies after MHS.

Today we have all been fully engaged in our i-value Day! KS3 and Year 10 students have enjoyed sessions delivered by many guests, covering topics such as Health, Democracy and  GCSE pathway choices.  Our Year 11 students were welcomed at The University of Chester to inspire many of our students to aim for Higher Education. Please look out for the full report after half term.

And finally... the World Book day theme has been agreed – ‘Novels into Films’! (Thinking hats on for your outfits).

Have a happy half term.
