Positive Friday! 07/11/2014

Today is Positive Friday! A weekly blog post about positive events from the past week.

Head’s Blog – Positive Friday 07/11/2014

Welcome back to all students and staff.  This week we have launched the November Children’s Rights Month (NCRM) event, which focuses on listening and actively engaging with young people so their voice has a sustainable impact on future generations.  We have worked closely with the Local Children’s Rights Board (LCRB), and I’d like to thank them for their energy and passion in supporting a whole host of events throughout this month.  More information to follow, including our attempt to set a world record!

Last night students and staff attended the launch of the Young Advisors Group and we are delighted that a number of our ex-students are now role models and ambassadors for students’ issues.  On the same evening, our children engaged with the World Challenge Leaders as they plan their trip of a life time to India.  We were told that this group of students were among the most organised and dedicated to this challenge.  Each participant has to raise £2,500 each in order for them to take part, and if there are any groups or organisations that would like to help, please contact the school directly.

Many thanks to a whole host of local companies and individuals who have agreed to sponsor prizes for our up-and-coming Certificate Evening on Thursday 20th November.  We are looking forward to celebrating with our ex-students who are now engaged in future studies or work placements.  I would like to invite all sponsors to attend this evening, if you wish to do so please contact Eleanor Shakeshaft, Marketing and Events Coordinator, by emailing eleanor.shakeshaft@middlewichhigh.cheshire.sch.uk, or calling the school.

Congratulations to the year 7 boy’s football team, who are complete super stars having successfully won the Vale Royal School’s FA League, and have gone through the season unbeaten.  We now move into basketball season, and already these students look promising in this sport as well.  Netball Club began on Monday, and there has already been a fantastic response with many of our girls taking part.  Our PE department’s Primary Links are also proving to be extremely successful, which you can read about in our news section here.

The new science lab that is scheduled for completion in the New Year is on track, and after a successful meeting with all partners this week, we are now working to finish the internal fittings. I am sure this will enhance the teaching and learning experience of our students.

As of this week, we are delighted to announce that our new data systems for parents have gone live, and Key Stage 4 student information is now accessible from home 24 hours a day.  This will allow parents, staff and children to further work together to improve and raise academic standards.  The Key Stage 3 data goes live early next week.

This morning, as is our tradition, we hosted the Royal British Legion, who once more commemorated the Remembrance of those who have given their lives and fought in combat for this country.  I would like to thank them for once again holding this special event, particularly with it being the 100 years Centenary of WWI.  Furthermore, our Sewing Club has managed to sell over 150 hand-made poppies for the 2014 Poppy Appeal, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Royal British Legion.

As usual, look out for photos of these events which will be posted soon in our regularly updated News section, which you can find here.

Kind regards,

Keith Simpson
