The curriculum is arranged to deliver a breadth of subjects, which will inspire all students to become motivated for lifelong learning. Every child is expected to work exceptionally hard to realise their full potential and they are encouraged to embrace all the opportunities offered at Middlewich High School. The curriculum is designed to be aspirational and focuses on high-quality Literacy and Numeracy across the curriculum. Opportunities within both Key Stages for specific Literacy and Numeracy intervention are prominent and aim to secure high standards for all of our students.

The Curriculum Structure
The curriculum is arranged as Key Stage 3 (age 11 – 13) and Key Stage 4 (13 – 16).
Key Stage 3
Building on the strength of the Key stage 2 our Key stage curriculum is a range of compulsory courses, which incorporates the National Curriculum. The offer provides a broad and balanced foundation for a very successful transition to Key Stage 4 and aims to secure high levels of literacy and numeracy. Teaching is of a high quality with staff understanding that the knowledge and skills developed over Years 7 & 8 are essential for the subsequent challenge of GCSEs studied in Year 9, 10 and 11.
Key Stage 4
All students study challenging and relevant subjects, with qualifications tailored to meet their own needs, interests and ambitions. High quality guidance is provided for students choosing their option subjects for introduction in Year 9. Curriculum time supports outcomes in GCSE English and Mathematics, whilst still preserving a breadth of subjects and development of ‘softer skills’ essential for successful future employment.
Current topics relating to Religious, Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural studies are also covered across the curriculum and in weekly assemblies. The assemblies are themed and the whole school meets together once a fortnight to consider and reflect on topics which influence living in a tolerant, modern world.
