Middlewich High School

Excellence in Learning – Achievement for All

Useful Links for Students & Families

At MHS we understand that families are keen support their child.  Research shows that families can have the greatest influence on a child’s career decision, but, with changes to the education examination system, the introduction of various new pathways (such as T-levels) and an ever-changing labour market, it can be difficult to know how best to support your child.

All students have access to START, an online careers guidance platform. We actively encourage students and families to use START at home, whereby family members can also create their own profile.

We regularly post information on Google classroom, which gives news and information about apprenticeships, university events and employment, as well as local, national and international opportunities for residentials, courses and taster days. Encourage your children to read and, where relevant, to act upon these. Please supervise your child if it is a virtual event.

Top Tips:

  • Encourage your child to participate in extra-curricular activities and career development opportunities and enrichment experiences, like the Duke of Edinburgh or the National Citizen Service

  • Research careers resources/education and training opportunities (START is free to use)

  • Encourage your child to gain as much education and training as possible

  • Help them discover their innate talents and skills

  • Develop their knowledge of the world of work

  • Teach them decision-making skills

  • Value gender equity and cultural diversity
