Middlewich High School

Achievement for all

World Challenge

Middlewich High is involved with the World Challenge. World Challenge is a UK provider of school expeditions too many parts of the world ranging from North America to Australia. This life changing experience enables students to develop vital skills such as: independence, teamwork, leadership and global citizenship. Also, World Challenge gives an insight into life beyond education. Over the past decade, pupils from Middlewich have visited countries such as Poland, Ethiopia, Malaysia and Kenya.

After last years successful expedition to India, it was time again to select a new team of enthusiastic students to accompany Mr McAdam and Mr Wiseman in jetting off somewhere around the globe in 2017 to help communities in need through building shelters, planting trees etc. But where were so many students so eager to get themselves a place for? The answer… the South-Eastern Asian country of Malaysia! It was a long process of letters and interviews but in the end a lucky 17 years 9 and 10 students had been able to confirm their place on a trip of a lifetime.

So where are those 17 pupils up to now?

It’s been a busy year full of fundraising for the challengers this year. After packing people's shopping in supermarkets, cake sales, holding a disco for our fellow students and loads more of exciting events, as a team we are now doing our first sponsored event as we all prepare to make the treacherous climb up Mount Snowdon itself. Not only is this a great way of fundraising, it also gives us an insight into the level of fitness we’ll need over the two weeks we’ll spend in Malaysia (as if the cooper run wasn’t enough!) and I’m sure it will be a great, fun team building exercise for all.

If you have any ideas on how to help the World Challenge Team, please contact the school on 01606 288170.
